Clontarf joy for club

by club PRO Paul Deering

Seamus Somers and Lucy Brennan carried their excellent Dublin City Marathon form into another race in the capital, this time the Clontarf half marathon on Saturday morning last.

Seamus was an excellent second home in 1.17.05 while Lucy was second female over the line in 1.27.09.

Crisp, cold conditions with no wind made for good running conditions for the 1,000 plus field on a course that takes in the beach. One of the club's newest members, Wojciech Terlecki was the second male Sligo AC runner home in 1.26.20 with Neal Higgins third in 1.29.24. Ciaran Donnellan was Sligo AC's fourth male home in 1.45.16 while Conor McCarthy was next setting a new pb of 1.56.17.

Second female home for the club was Conor's wife, Cathy who posted 1.48.13, another great effort from one of the club's Dublin marathoners of a month ago. She was followed closely by Noelle Galvan in 1.48.33 who was making her debut over the distance. Another debutant with an excellent run was Karen Somers who finished in 2.04.45.

In the five mile event run in conjunction with the half marathon, Pauline Henry was 55th overall in 39.00 with Carmel Mullaney in 44.01 and Ciara Donnellan in 48.31.
