WANTED....

Hi Running colleagues:
If any of you have old spikes whatever condition or size could please let us have them for recycling. They are invaluable to children who are trying out cross country or track for the first time and do not as yet have their own. If they are in top condition due to the fact they are expensive a small fee can be arranged. If you can help please contact any of the Club coaches who will be present at the Sligo IT training track every Tuesday and Thursday between 17:00pm and 18:30pm.
Thank you in advance.

Saturday Morning Run.

Once again the 7:57 Trail Runners took shelter and comfort in the surroundings of Union Wood this morning, Sources close to the Blog Spotter said that Sligo AC's hardened Road Runners were spotted pounding the roads of the Yeats County early this morning, and we have photographic evidence of Sligo AC's "Legs 11" training group who also braved the elements this morning and were spotted in a scenic area of the County completing there long run, well done to all Sligo AC members for choosing to stay active this morning and get out and enjoy the fresh air and banter of each training group rather than lazing the day away. All members are asked to remember that the club's AGM is on this Monday evening January 27th in The Sligo Southern Hotel and all are asked to attend, we would also like to invite any one wishing to join the club to attend on the night.
Happy Running...

Sligo AC's future stars shine bright.

The National Junior Indoors(U/20) were held in Nenagh on Sunday last. Some great performances by our young athletes. Emily Burns and Colm Bourke qualified respectively for their Long Jump Finals and acquitted themselves very well. Killian O'Connor finished 6th in the 1500m final while Zak Irwin qualified for the 60m Final and finished in 5th place. This augurs well for the season ahead, and well done to all athletes and their dedicated coaches from all in Sligo AC.

7:57 Club

Once again there was a fantastic turnout at Union wood this morning for the weekly gathering of the renowned Sligo AC's 7:57 club. At the time of going to post the word on the ground was that a splinter group was spotted heading in the direction of Rosses Point as the 7:57 was gathering at Union, It is also rumoured that the discussion of the splinter group was focusing on a speed session which took place under the cover of darkness last Tuesday on the Hazelwood Road where it is alleged the average speed was above the legel limit for the area, it was also mentioned that one of the offenders was herd saying during one of the ferocious bursts of speed "when are we starting the session", the same offender is no stranger to entering races under an alias, The club Chairman is investigating these allegations. It is hoped that all athletes are enjoying their running and we hope to see the numbers increasing each week. A suggestion was also made that a new camera will need to be purchased with a telescopic lens as due to increased numbers the "old reliable iphone" no longer can handle the crowd's.
Please don't forget that Sligo AC's AGM is been held in the Sligo Southern Hotel on Monday January 30th at 7:30pm, all members are asked to attend and all newcomers are most welcome.

Emmet's success.

What a great day for Sligo AC's Emmett Dunleavy who was the 1st Irish finisher and 17th overall in the Antrim International Cross country."Emmett kept the Kenyans well in his sights". Congratulations from all your running buddies in Sligo AC.

Teddy Bear's Picnic......

If you go down to the woods this Saturday your in for a big surprise,
If you go down to the woods this Saturday you'll never believe your eyes,
For all the runners that ever there was are gathered there together because,
O'Connell has said get out of bed because the Pink T-Shirt is waiting for the Lazy head. The 7:57 club is heading for union wood Saturday morning and with 22 brave "Bears" last week expectations are high for increased numbers this week and all new comers are welcome as there are a number of pace groups available. The Irish aviation authority have been informed of the increased levels of high Viz clothing in the area and we are not expecting any air liners veering off course for the duration of the run. So see you there for the craic and banter provided by all on route.

Gold Medal for Sligo AC Athlete.

Congratulations and well done to Sligo AC's Kevin Mc Glone who won GOLD in the 800metres M40 in 2.12 at the National Indoor Championshps in Nenagh. Well done Kevin from all at Sligo AC.

Operation Transformation Walk......

Hi folks,

The Irish Sports Council and the 33 Local Sports Partnerships around the
country have teamed up with RTE's Operation Transformation Programme
(presenter Kathryn Thomas) to encourage people to follow a healthy lifestyle
in 2012.

People of Sligo are been encouraged to kick start a healthy and active
lifestyle for 2012 by joining Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership at 12
noon on Saturday 14th January for one of the Operation Transformation
National Walks. The meeting place for the walk is JFK Parade Sligo and the
route will follow along Doorly Park over a distance of 4 kilometres.

The Sligo walk will have an RTE film crew on site for the event and hence
the people of Sligo are encouraged to put on their walking shoes and promote
Sligo as an active an d scenic county to the nation (highlights from the
walk, one of only 7 walks to be filmed, will be featured on the 'Operation
Transformation' RTE programme on Wednesday 18th January).

Attached is a flier so please spread the message among family, friends, work
colleagues through your websites/ facebook pages/ email contacts etc.

Hope to see you on the day and 'Let's Get Sligo Walking'

Regards,
Shane
